All the feels of fall…TURKEY tacos! Came across this place walking around the Centro Histórico and was intrigued. “Cool. Something unusual.” Definitely piqued my interest, I’m always up to try something new and appreciating the “sloth factor” of being different. So I gave @ElReydelPavo a shot. Unfortunately, the exploration didn’t pay off. It kills me to have a mediocre taco in Mexico City. KILLS me. Maybe it was the high expectations of my dad’s special herbs and spices on our Thanksgiving Day turkey + gravy that really didn’t make it fair for El Rey. That said, they were hearty slabs of roasted turkey with a generous amount of guac. the one one the right with adobado salsa and the one on the left without. A well-oiled machine and apparently wildly popular (this classic old school diner is an institution—been around for 109 years one block off of the Zócalo in downtown CDMX), the tacos were meh. Seriously… Painful. You KNOW you have limited meals and stomach capacity in CDMX — and endless amazing options. I’ll take some tried and true al pastor or carne asada. Porfa.
