Tito’s Tacos

We can’t even. After avoiding the inevitable for years, our #strongbunch finally tackled the #TitosTacos LA institution. #moralsupport I mean, this place is a beloved taco making machine that’s been wooing Angelenos since 1959. Eventually, we had to get there—even though they use piles of orange cheese (it’s so void of flavor, we can’t even call it cheddar) which goes against everything we believe in about tacos. Nevertheless, we made the pilgrimage. It must be the nostalgia that keeps everyone coming back and waiting in eternal lines because we were sad—even though the shredded beef, lettuce, and “cheese” in the hard shell reminded us of what our moms used to make at home when we were kids. @carolynburkpretty much summed it all up with her typical silver lining perspective, “They do have good ice!” Ice. Exactly. Willing to accept that Tito’s has its place, it was hard to overlook the unappetizing vats of “chili” and “chili beans” carelessly slopped into tortillas by the team in autopilot. But we still must pay homage…we’re guessing that Tito’s is one of the #tacopioneers that paved the way for the Amercian palate to embrace truly authentic Mexican flavors and #tacos.
