Reminiscing the other day about the virtues of the classic Guatemalan breakfast. It’s legit hard to pick a champ here…the thick, fresh made corn tortillas, the fried plantains. But I’ve gotta say, the frijoles volteados probably rival cacao, @ricardoarjona, Miguel Angel Asturias, @gaby_moreno, Tikal and @rigoberta_menchu as Guatemala’s most valuable gifts to humanity. South, way south of the border, needing a #tacofix (weird right?)…and after these pretty darn authentic tacos, mi boca #tacontento! Al pastor was solid! Better flavor than the bistek and all the guac, salsas, limes and pineapple you need. Calidad @tacontento_gt! Kudos for the local toque chapin with the mayan weaving decor. In classic Guatemala style, super sincere and kind servers explained that unlike most taquerías, you’re limited to your choice of taco meat in orders of 2. ¿Qué? They said their “system” didn’t allow it. We’re not in Mexico City anymore.
